Spring Creek Employee Dies in Accident

An employee of the Spring Creek Coal Co. mine near Decker, Montana, was killed in an accident about 7 o'clock Monday evening.

The accident involved a truck used to haul coal. The mine is about 35 miles north of Sheridan.

Big Horn County Coroner Terry Bullis indicated the person was from Sheridan. He said he cannot release the name of the deceased until later this afternoon, possibly not before 3 or 4 o'clock.

Wyoming-based Cloud Peak Energy, which owns the mine, said in a statement today that there were no other injuries in the accident. Company officials said next of kin have been notified and federal mine safety officials are on the scene. No other details were immediately available.

Cloud Peak CEO and President Colin Marshall extended his sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers of the deceased.

Spring Creek employs about 280 people and produced more than 17 million tons of coal in 2013.

Sheridan Media will release more information about the incident as it becomes available.
