Special District Needed For Water Users On NW Pipeline

County Residents near the NW Water Pipeline project will need to establish a Special Improvements District (SID) should they opt to hook up to city water lines that will be installed this year.

There are still specifics to work out before all that happens, according to Jim Martin with WWC Engineering, but now is the time to get discussions moving as the best time to hook up to the lines is as they are being constructed.

Martins spoke to the Johnson County Commissioners at their last meeting, advising them how to set up SIDs and how they work for both county residents and the City of Buffalo, who will own the lines.

Whether there will be one special district for the whole project or numerous ones based on location remains to be seen. WWC just wanted the commissioners aware of what would need to be done to get county residents hooked onto the lines if they so choose. The information is a step-by-step process for the county to follow to get the special districts up and running, Martin said.

Construction on the pipeline is expected to begin in May, Martin said, so public workshops will need to be scheduled soon for information to get to the county residents who may be considering hooking up to the pipeline.

Those dates will be scheduled and announced soon.
