The Sheridan City Council held a special meeting Monday to consider a resolution supporting the allocation of funds that are in an affordable housing account that's administered by the Sheridan County Treasurer.

There is currently $278,064 in the account that can be allocated to local agencies that provide affordable housing.

The account was set up as part of the $2,000,000 in CBM impact funds that were awarded to Sheridan County and its municipalities several years ago. The resolution that the Council approved recommends $250,000 of the fund go to Green House Living for Sheridan and the remainder be given to Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns.

Green House President Doug Osborn says the funding is needed due to the bids for the project coming in higher than their financial plans.

The $278,000 that's in the affordable housing account came from lots that were sold to people who did not qualify for affordable housing under the median income guidelines.

Although the City is in approval of dispersing the bulk of the monies to Green House, there has to be a consensus between the County and the other municipalities within Sheridan County before the allocation can take place.
