SPD Release Details of Saturday Morning Incident

The Sheridan Police Department issued a news release Monday that stated at approximately 7am Saturday, 65-year-old Mark Underhill called 9-1-1 and told dispatch that he was in a parking lot adjoining the police department, and that he was armed with a firearm and intended on taking his life.

Dispatch personnel attempted to calm Underhill and provide him options. Police Officers trained in Crisis Intervention Training contacted Underhill with the intention of providing help. Police Officers located Underhill and gave him instructions to put his firearm down, and reveal his hands. Underhill responded by shooting himself. Officers immediately approached and checked for vital signs, none were observed. The coroner’s office took possession of the body and notified Underhill’s family.
