SMH Vision: Think Health Care, Think Sheridan

Sheridan Memorial Hospital strives to be the place people think of when they think of excellent health care.

That's the message of hospital CEO Mike McCafferty, and the core of the hospital's operational plan for the next two years. McCafferty talked about the hospital's operational plan in an interview this week with Sheridan Media.

Hospital trustees adopted the two year plan, which will be from now through December 2019, at their meeting earlier this week. McCafferty said the strategic pillars for the hospital are people, service, safety, quality, finance and growth.

He said the hospital has identified goals and metric within each of those pillars. For example, he said, under the pillar of people, the hospital's focus is employee engagement, and under service, the focus is on the experience of patients.

The goal under quality is to achieve a 4-star rating for Overall Hospital Quality on a consumer-oriented website called “Hospital Compare” by the release of ratings in December 2019.

In association with the operational plan, McCafferty said the hospital this year is implementing Lean management into the organization. McCafferty said this will allow the hospital to more effectively implement the operational plan..

Trustees at their meeting this week authorized McCafferty to proceed with an agreement with an organization called Simpler for consultation services over the next three years. They also authorized payment of $375,000 throughout the remainder of this fiscal year for those services.

McCafferty said the hospital will start working with Simpler in the next few weeks.
