A representative of SkyWest Airlines said the company is interested in a long-term partnership with Wyoming in a presentation to city and county officials, state legislators and members of CAST Tuesday night.

Renee Obermueller, who's administrator of CAST – the Sheridan-Johnson County Critical Air Service Team – said the meeting was just for information, and no decisions would be made at this time.

SkyWest is the airline service selected by the state to serve to serve Gillette, Rock Springs, Riverton and Sheridan, and Sheridan is now looking at deciding between SkyWest and Denver Air Connection to serve the community's commercial flight needs.

Shawn Parker, who's president of CAST, said CAST has scheduled a meeting Thursday morning.

CAST entered into a contract with Denver Air Connection in November 2015, after Great Lakes stopped airline service at the Sheridan County Airport.

Denver Air Connection also submitted a proposal to Wyoming's Legislature to serve the four designated communities. State Rep. Cyrus Western, who attended Tuesday's meeting, talked about why the Legislature selected SkyWest to serve Wyoming.

He said a big issue was seat capacity.

Greg Atkin with SkyWest said at Tuesday's meeting that SkyWest operates 200 of the 700 50-seat jets in the U.S.

He talked about SkyWest's reliability, saying that of SkyWest's more than 2,000 flights out of Wyoming airports in the last 12 months, only four were canceled due to controllable events such as aircraft maintenance.
