“Silver-Haired Legislators” Gear Up for Cheyenne

Two Sheridanites have been selected by the Senior Center to represent the county in Cheyenne for this year's “Silver-Haired Legislators” session this month. Wayne Schatz and Mike Mellgren are familiar faces around Sheridan, with Schatz serving on the District 2 school board of trustees, and Mellgren sitting on the county's planning commission, but this new assignment will take each into new territory as they debate hypothetical laws. Schatz explains how it works.

This year's items for consideration include a No Child Left Behind Waiver, Minimum Wage Increases, and starting a state lottery. Mellgren has even sponsored a piece of legislation he plans to introduce at the mock legislative session.

Sometimes, bills passed by the Silver-Haired Legislators are introduced to the real state legislator to become laws.
