Pastries for Parents, a morning when the elementary school students share doughnuts and other pastries, fruits and juice with their parents, has been an annual event for several years at Sheridan's Henry A. Coffeen Elementary School.

But this year's event, held Friday morning, was a little special. Judith Willis, who's a member of the school's PTO, said many parents can't attend the event because of their jobs or other obligations. So this year, students from Sheridan High School came to the school to provide company for Coffeen students whose parents weren't able to come.

Paige Sanders, who's principal of Coffeen Elementary, said this is the first year for high school students to attend the breakfast, and the roster of high school students in attendance included members of the soccer, football and basketball teams and the high school cheerleaders in addition to other students.

Willis estimated the annual breakfast has been observed at the school for at least 12 or 13 years. She said the observance is part of a national Pastries for Parents Day.
