Shores at Lake DeSmet Seeking Paving Variance at Subdivision

Johnson County Commission

The owners of the Shores at Lake DeSmet Subdivision are seeking a variance in their agreement with the county for paving certain roads in the subdivision, and are looking for the county commissioners and the Planning and Zoning Commission to grant the variance.

The discussion came up again at last week's commission meeting, and County Planner Rob Yingling told commissioners the P&Z Commission had already given their recommendation to not allow the variance.

The owners of the subdivision want to chip and seal certain roads in the subdivision instead of paving them, and argued that their roads, if allowed to be chip sealed, would be up to the county's standards for roads near the subdivision.

According to the discussions, there may have been some confusion as to what the commissioners would allow the developer to do.

The confusion prompted the commissioners to suggest that Yingling have the P&Z Commission speak to a WYDOT Engineer to see if the developer's recommendation would be acceptable, and report back to the commission with their findings and recommendations on the matter.
