The Sheridan County Sheriff's Office received a number of reports Wednesday regarding an individual claiming to be with the Sheriff's Office who was soliciting people over the phone. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter has the story.

A man proclaiming to be Lieutenant Woods with the Sheridan County Sheriff's “Department” Warrants Division has been calling local residents telling them that they have a warrant and subsequent fine. Sheridan County Sheriff Dave Hofmeier says that these calls are not affiliated with the Sheriff's Office.

After speaking with the Sheriff, I called the number of the bogus lieutenant to find out exactly what was going on.

Hofmeier said that if you do happen to receive a phone call from someone claiming to be Lieutenant Woods from the Sheriff's Office, you should hang up immediately.
