Sheridan Man Receives Historical Society Grant

Mike Mackey of Sheridan has received a research grant from the Wyoming State Historical Society for 2014. The $1,025 grant is for “Wyoming Samurai: Military Service at Heart Mountain.”

The grant is through the Lola Homsher program, and is selected by committee. Committee Chair Tamsen Hert said eight grants were awarded this year out of a total 18 applicants. The total amount awarded was $6,000. Hert said the committee was impressed with the amount of research and diversity of research people are doing in pursuit of Wyoming history.

She said anyone considering research about Wyming that will result in a tangible project may apply for the research grants, including amateur and professional historians and students. Grant applications are accepted once a year, and must be submitted by Feb. 28.

The research grant is made possible from the endowment established by former Wyoming State Archivist Lola Homsher. In addition to the grant funds, each recipient receives a one-year complimentary membership in the state historical society.
