Saturday, 73 5th through 8th grade students, from all schools across the county, took part in the county-wide spelling bee, all with hopes to continue on to national competition.

Organizer Rosemary Larkin said it was an accomplishment just to make it to the county-wide competition.

With the advent of ‘spell check’ on most computers, Larkin still considers spelling to be important.

Sponsored and hosted by Century 21 BHJ, the event was held in the atrium of Sheridan College’s Whitney Academic Center and the top speller received a $500 scholarship to Sheridan College.

The winners were:

1st Place - Jesse Rodriguez (Tongue River Middle School)
2nd Place - Reese Hendrickson (Big Horn Middle School)
3rd Place - Wes Beadle (Tongue River Middle School)
