Sheridan County School District 1 Gets Good Audit Report

Enrollment in Sheridan County School District #1 is falling similar to a decline at the same time last year. Unfortunately, school funding is based on the average daily membership of students in class. The District #1 Board received a positive audit report at their meeting Tuesday night. As student populations decline, funding dries up just when costs are rising. Business manager Jeremy Smith says it costs more each day to operate the district than it did last year.

The issues with Tongue River High School’s heating have been addressed and the commons area will be renovated during the Christmas break. The heating failed a week ago and that caused the school to send students home for half a day. The system was repaired that afternoon. That repair was covered in the building warranty. The second project involves the tile in the high school commons area not staying attached to the floor. A decision made during construction caused the problem so the School Facilities Commission will have to fund the re-installation of the floor over the next couple weeks. The District will begin its Christmas break on Friday, December 18th.
