Sheridan County Commissioners Consider Establishing A Groundwater Protection Area

Part of the Sheridan County Comprehensive Plan stated that Sheridan County should think about regulating development in areas where the groundwater is vulnerable to contamination. The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality classifies the potential for contamination based on several factors including groundwater levels. County Planner Mark Reid explains.

County Commissioners approved a resolution that would get the ball rolling on amending the Zoning Resolution. The amendment would place special requirements on lots that fall within the Class 5 Groundwater Vulnerability Areas.

The next step is for the Planning and Zoning Commission to review the amendment. They will also consider putting a freeze on any further developments in those areas until a Groundwater Protection Area can be established.
