Sheridan County Approves MOU For Air Service

Sheridan County Approves MOU For Air Service

The Sheridan County Commission voted to approve a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the county and the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) for participation in the Commercial Air Service Improvement Plan.

County Administrator Renee Obermueller explained that the agreement will specify Sky West Airlines to provide air service to the Sheridan County Airport after January of 2020.
In the agreement, the state would hold the contract with Sky West Airlines, and the MOU approved by the commission is between WYDOT and the county as the community sponsor.
The MOU is also contingent upon the city entering into the agreement with the county and sharing in the costs for air service.

The commissioners gave a roll-call vote and each spoke about the agreement, saying it was a difficult decision considering how hard Denver Air Connection had worked with the county to provide good air service.
Each commissioner said their decision came down to providing a lower cost to consumers and that turning down state money to help with the cost of air service was not wise.

Commission Chairman Tom Ringley agreed.

The approval of the MOU was passed unanimously.
