Sheridan College Offering Free Tax Help

Students and faculty in the Sheridan College business department will once again be offering the free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program this year.

The service will be offered on various Fridays and Saturdays February through April in room 139B at the Edward A. Whitney Academic Center on campus. Sheridan College Business Instructor Tracy Dearinger.

She added that the income limit is $65,000 or less, but if the returns are simple, the amount can be expanded. Participants are required to bring all social security cards for the taxpayer and all dependents, photo ID for the taxpayer and spouse, all W-2's, 1099s, 1089-T's, mortgage interest statements, real estate tax statements, medical expense receipts, any charitable contribution receipts and any other documents pertaining to taxes.

Dearinger said that drop-ins are welcome, however, appointments take priority. To make an appointment call 674-6446. The dates and times for the tax assistance are Saturdays between 10 and 2 - February 8, March 1, March 22, and April 5. Fridays between 10 and 2 - February 21, March 7, March 28 and April 11.
