The Sheridan City Council adopted a $28.4 million budget Monday night.

After months of department cuts and countless work sessions and meetings to come up with ways to balance the budget, The Sheridan City Council approved a $28.4 million budget.

City Councilman Alex Lee says that a month full of budget work sessions really helped as far as informing the Council on where the shortfall would be made up.

The City was faced with a proposed budget deficit of $1.8 million when sales and use tax revenues began to decline during the latter part of 2010. The revenues never rebounded and the City was forced to make department cuts across the board.

The budget that was approved for fiscal year 2012 includes the elimination of 8 full-time equivalents from the fire department.

The City still has to make a decision regarding the Request for Proposal on ambulance services within the City. When that decision will be made still remains to be seen.
