The National Weather Service Office in Billings will be conducting a SKYWARN Severe Weather Spotter training session in Dayton a week from Saturday. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

The SKYWARN Spotter Training will be held from 10 am to noon on Saturday, April 27 at the Tongue River Valley Community Center in Dayton. Warning Coordination Meteorologist Tom Frieders with the National Weather Service in Billings says that the National Weather Service relies on trained volunteers to supplement Doppler radar information on severe storms.

Frieders said that the training is free and available to anyone interested in severe weather, or becoming a trained severe storm spotter. He said that those who have attended previous training sessions are encouraged to attend as a refresher and to stay updated on the latest reporting procedures.
