Several hundred people gathered in Whitney Commons Saturday morning to run or walk to raise breast cancer awareness during the ninth annual “The Link – Partners in Pink” event.

The event is a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness, and Ada Kirven, who's the foundation's director of donor relations, talked about how the money raised from the event is used.

Kirven said about 450 people pre-registered for the 5- and 10-K run/walk, and there were more people registering Saturday morning before the start of the event at 10 a.m. She said she was hoping for a final count of more than 500, which would be on par with previous years. She thought that was, in fact, a few more people than last year.

The starting line was in a different location than last year. Kirven said that was because The Link committee wanted to have the start and finish in the same place.

The event included music before and after the run/walk, along with snacks and T-shirts for all participants.
