Shortly after 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon there were several reports of numerous funnel clouds in Sheridan County. A call to the National Weather Service in Billings confirmed that there was indeed some weather in our area throughout the lunch hour yesterday that was more than capable of producing a tornado.

That's Meteorologist Julie Arthur, who said that while tornado's are rare for our part of the country, they can develop within a thunderstorm quite rapidly.

Arthur stated that they issue a tornado warning when the Doppler radar shows rotation in the storm and that Wednesday's system didn't appear to be rotating and that that's why no warning was issued.
