Second Sheridan County Wildfire Contained

Lightning has ignited a second wildfire in the Tongue River Canyon in Sheridan County.

The new fire is located across the canyon from where firefighters have been battling a fire all week. The fires are burning just west of Dayton.

The first fire has burned more than a square mile of timber and grass. More than 100 firefighters and three helicopters are battling the fire, which is now about 15 percent contained. The new fire was reported Thursday morning and resources from the first fire were tapped to try and put it out. Officials say water was dropped from a helicopter and fire retardant air drops also were requested. As of 8 last night, fire officials were saying that fire was contained.
