SCSD2 Renews Contract with VOA for Detention, Suspension Program

Sheridan County School District 2 renewed its contract with Volunteers of America Northern Rockies during their board meeting this week to continue their A.C.E. (Accountability Change Education) program at the Old Woodland Park school. VOA's Craig Fiscus talked about the program's success in helping students in the district who have been suspended or expelled and how they would like to continue that success.

The school district will pay VOA $17,915 per month to run the program for the 2011-12 school year, which is the same amount they paid last year. Superintendent Craig Dougherty reiterated the importance of the program.

VOA personnel at the facility are required to maintain the same certifications greater than or equal to that of a substitute teacher. Activities that the program has students practice throughout the day include both learning activities and physical activities, with the majority of time concentrated on learning.
