SCSD#1 Cuts Jobs to Balance Budget

Sheridan County School District One has cut six jobs in order to balance its budget. Business manager, Jeremy Smith, said student enrollment, and therefore state funding, is down.

After the district announced the necessary cuts to the staff, six volunteers agreed to take severance packages. The district is now in the process of reassessing operational costs. Though specific details aren't nailed down yet, Smith anticipates more cuts.

A smaller staff in District One means a larger workload for staff members who stay in addition to the emotional toll.

The severance package for those who voluntarily stepped down is $1000 per year for up to 10 years.
