School Trustees Hear Praise for Alternative School

SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Sheridan County School District 2 Superintendent Craig Dougherty praised the district's alternative schools Monday evening after Mick Wiest, a teacher at the Fort MacKenzie school, was named the district's Certified Staff Member of the Year.

The award was announced at the meeting of School District 2's board of trustees. Also honored at the meeting was Linda Bilyeu, District 2 Certified Staff Member of the Year, and the District's Advanced Placement teachers and students, 24 of whom have been recognized as Advanced Placement Scholars.

Dougherty told trustees that Fort MacKenzie has raised the bar for Sheridan's high schools, noting that the school has been recognized as not just a top alternative school but one of the top high schools in Wyoming.

Also at Monday's board meeting, trustees received an update on capital construction projects in the district – which includes schools in Sheridan and Story Elementary School – and gave first-reading approval to three changes in school policies.
