By State Statute, all school districts and community colleges must hold their budget approval meeting the 3rd Wednesday of July. Sheridan Media's Mary Jo Johnson with the report from Sheridan School District 2.

District 2 trustees approved a budget totaling $60,206,316 after first approving a budget transfer amendment for the General Fund, the Food Service Fund and the Capital Construction Fund. Business Manager Roxie Taft.

District 2 will average spending just over $13,500 per student this coming school year. Also, 83.5% of the '09-10 budget goes to salaries and benefits, the highest in the state. Taft says.

The other major news from the meeting is that the District has set a schedule for moving into the new Woodland Park School. They were hoping they could make it by the first part of September, but realistically, the contractor, Haseldon, set a mid-October goal because of the weather. Education Coordinator Scott Stults.

The district sent out letters to every family who has a student at the school, outlining the move-in schedule. The good news is that no days will have to be missed, since they planned an early release on Friday October 9th and Monday the 12th was already on the books as a Staff Work Day. A ribbon cutting ceremony and contractor-hosted BBQ and tour for staff, parents and students will be held the evening of the 12th, and classes will begin in the new school Tuesday morning, October 13th.
