Four teachers in Sheridan County School District 1 were recognized for their hard work and dedication to their students during the district's board of trustees meeting Tuesday night.

Plaques were presented to January teachers of the month Lamont Clabaugh from Big Horn Elementary School and Trista Logan from Tongue River Elementary School. Plaques were also presented to Apple Award winners Lea Anne Kahler at Big Horn Elementary and Angie Summers from Tongue River Elementary.

In other action, trustees held a public hearing on whether to continue the district's four-day school week. The district has maintained a four-day week for several years, and Trustees Chair Gary Reynolds said the district is required by state law to hold a hearing every two years to determine whether the practice will be continued.

He said the district will also publish a survey on the district website at the end of this month and email the survey to parents.

District Superintendent Pete Kilbride also asked for, and received, the board's okay to start advertising this month for a principal for Big Horn High School. He said the high school principal resigned late last year, and the position has been currently filled by Richard Welch, who's also principal of Big Horn Middle School.

Kilbride said Welch has done a wonderful job, but he believes it's time to hire a separate principal for the high school.
