Sam's Trophy Gets Permanent Home

Sam's Trophy, which is a life size bronze of Sam Mavrakis carrying the head of an elk over his shoulders, now has a permanent home. The sculpture was moved to the corner of Coffeen Street and Gould Monday morning. Downtown Sheridan Association President John Smith says from raising the funds for the sculpture to finally having it placed downtown permanently was a long time coming.

Smith pointed out that while it may have taken some time getting the sculpture a permanent home, Sam's Trophy is finally where it was meant to be.

Sam Mavrakis was inducted into the Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame in 2006 for his advocacy of outdoor issues and education. Mavrakis passed away March 6, 2008 at the age 89.
