Safe Weekend: Law Enforcement Increasing Patrols During Holiday

Law enforcement agencies will work extra hours this weekend to crack down on drunk driving and to increase interstate and highway safety during Labor Day weekend.

Sheridan County Sheriff's Corporal Allen Thompson explains what they will be doing in Sheridan County.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the number of alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities in 2009 was still 10,839 people nationwide.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol has been running increased patrols from Aug. 27 and will continue to do so through Sept 6. Sergeant Stephen Townsend with the Wyoming Highway Patrol explains how last year went, and what their goal for this weekend is.

Townsend said that extra law enforcement will include troopers who typically work in administrative duty.
