Halloween activities literally got off to a running start Saturday morning with the third annual Morning Mayhem Halloween Run sponsored by the Sheridan Recreation District.

Seth Ulvestad, who's the district's recreation program supervisor, said the run was just intended as a fun activity.

People did pay a fee to enter the event, $5 for children, $10 for adults, and Ulvestad said the money covers the costs of putting on not only the Halloween run but some other runs provided by the Recreation District. Ulvestad said he likes to do a resolution run in January and a Valentine's Day run in February.

He said he likes to keep the costs of the run as low as possible. Ulvestad said the runners get bananas and other snack foods. There were also quite a few bags of candy around for an event later Saturday – the Haunted Trails event.

For those who like their Halloween activities a little spookier, the Recreation District has been providing two Haunted Trails for the past couple of years. Ulvestad said a Haunted Trails for the youth starts at 4 p.m., and another starts around 6 for adults. Those are set up along the trails across the bridge from Thorne-Rider Park.

Ulvestad said he had lots of prizes lined up for the morning run.

Ulvestad said the Sport Stop and Sugar Boot have been sponsors of the run from the beginning. Kilpatrick's is new this year. Prizes were also be awarded to the race winner. Ulvestad said no best costume prize was awarded this year just because it's hard to get a panel of judges lined up for that.
