Rooted in Wyoming is a youth gardening collaboration, led by an all-volunteer staff and board of directors, dedicated to building and nurturing school and youth gardens in Sheridan County, and eventually throughout the state. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Rooted in Wyoming Executive Director Bonnie Gregory said that they are working to create gardens that provide intergenerational and educational recreation around healthy, locally grown foods. Gregory said the school gardens are a wonderful way to use the schoolyard as a classroom.

Gregory talks about what they’ve accomplished so far and some of the projects that are in the pipeline.

Gregory said that unfortunately, most children, even in Wyoming, are not familiar with the origins of their food, and have few opportunities to learn from nature and rural life.

We’ll have more on Rooted in Wyoming in a future story, including a “good old fashioned hoe-down” to benefit the organization.
