With speeches and the cutting of a red ribbon shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday, Weatherby Inc. officially opened in Sheridan.

Company President Adam Weatherby said his grandfather started the business in 1945, originally in California.

He said that was when the family started looking at other western states for a new location. He said in the fall of 2016, he first talked to then-Wyoming Governor Matt Mead by phone.

The gun manufacturing company held a day of grand opening events Thursday, including vendors, tours of the building, auctions and raffles.

Several hundred people attended the activities that started at 9 a.m. Weatherby said the turnout was both honoring and humbling.
