New details surrounding a terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya last September - an attack that left four Americans dead – emerged Wednesday during a hearing by the U.S. House Oversight Committee. U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis, a member of the committee, spoke with Sheridan Media's Chris Foy just hours after the hearing ended.

Three whistle blowers close to the Benghazi attack, which took place on September 11 of last year, revealed a narrative U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis says is marred by inexcusable inaction by members of the Obama administration.

On September 14 of 2012, White House press secretary Jay Carney said the situation in Benghazi was in response to a video he described as reprehensible and disgusting. He clarified that same day: “We have no information to suggest it was a pre-planned attack. The unrest we've seen around the region is in response to a video.”

But Representative Lummis says that contradiction is just the tip of the iceberg. Based on the testimony heard Wednesday, senior members of the Obama administration ignored the embassy's requests for additional security - and even gave nearby armed forces the order to stand down while the embassy was under siege.

Regional security officer posted at the U.S. Embassy in Libya, Eric Nordstrom, said during his testimony that ensuring the protection of our embassies and their staff is a topic deserving discussion – and the sequence of events need to be processed in the proper fashion.

Lummis says there are still questions that not only the victims' families need answers to – the American people deserve them too.

But alongside definitive answers, Lummis says charges of interfering with a congressional investigation and charges of interfering with a federal employee providing information to members of Congress could be in the realm of possibility in the days and weeks to come.
