Northern Wyoming Community College District trustees, Whitney Benefits board members, county and city officials and state legislators were among those who attended a reception and ribbon-cutting at Sheridan College's Technical Center Wednesday night.

Dr. Paul Young, college district president, talked about the event in an interview with Sheridan Media.

According to a news release from the college, about 25,000 square feet was added to the original tech facility, bringing total square footage to 52,000.

Work included a new welding lab, a wheeled lab addition to the diesel lab, new classrooms, faculty offices and common areas for students, as well as a complete remodel of the existing space.

Total cost of the project was over $13 million, half from the state and the remainder from matching private funds including money from the Whitney Benefits Foundation.

Among those attending the reception was Roy Garber, president of Whitney Benefits.

Garber said the Technical Center was a great community effort.

The Technical Center houses Sheridan College's machine tool technology, diesel technology, welding technology and construction technology programs.

Members of other foundations, including the Sheridan College Foundation, also attended the event.

In addition to funds for the building, the college also bought new equipment, using $1.5 million in grant funds from the U.S. Department of Commerce/Economic Development Administration.
