A reception at The Powder Horn Tuesday night launched three days of meetings and exchange of ideas aimed at promoting the use of coal to create products.

The Ramaco Research Rodeo is being hosted by Ramaco Carbon, a company that's planning to build the world's only fully integrate4d carbon resource, research and development and production facility in Sheridan County.

Randall Atkins, who's chairman and CEO of Ramaco Carbon, explained.

Atkins said the event brings together scientists from around the country to talk about what they're studying, what they're working on, and how their work might come into play with Ramaco Carbon's efforts in Sheridan. Atkins said Ramaco has three main product areas.

Those attending the event, and Tuesday's reception, include representatives of facilities such as the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and National Energy Technology Laboratory, with whom Ramaco Carbon has partnerships, the University of Kentucky, Ohio University, the University of Illinois in Chicago, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Spruceworks LLC, the University of Wisconsin, the Western Research Institute, Southern Research and Terrapower.

Sessions continue Wednesday and Thursday.
