More than 100 people attended a reception in honor of long-time local artist Neltje Thursday night at the Sagebrush Community Art Center on Fifth Street.

The reception opened a retrospective of the artist's work, which will be shown free to the public in the art center through Jan. 12.

A resident of Sheridan County since 1965, she is a self-taught painter whose work is held in many private collections and museums including the Smithsonian Institution, the Wyoming State Museum in Cheyenne and the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings. She was the 2005 recipient of the Wyoming Governor's Art Award for her work, and is the creator of the Jentel Foundation, which supports artists' residencies on her ranch in Banner.
