Rabid Skunk Found In Dayton

A skunk found on West 2nd Avenue in Dayton tested positive for rabies this week.

Dayton's mayor, Bob Wood, said the skunk had bitten a domestic dog before being killed and sent to a laboratory for testing. The dog received a rabies vaccine booster and is in quarantine for 10 days to see if signs of the deadly virus develop. Wood reminds citizens to have their domestic pets vaccinated and to call animal control if they see a skunk, raccoon or bat during daylight hours.
