"Malcolm Wallop--Conversations on Democracy”

The “Malcolm Wallop Fund for Conversations on Democracy” had its debut forum Tuesday night at Sheridan College. In a packed C-tel room, four of Wyoming's previous, current and future governors discussed and answered questions on a range of issues, including the purview of the 10th Amendment, energy policy, and honesty in political discourse.

Kristi Wallin is one of the “Conversations on Democracy” founders. She worked for Senator Wallop in the 80's, and says the group who started the fund was “trying to think of a way that would honor their beloved boss and also have a lasting impact”:

Paul Wallop, one of Senator Wallop's sons, gave some introductory remarks at the forum. He said his father “believed greatly in debate and deliberations of ideas.” This educational fund, which was created through the University of Wyoming, will allow for various types of forums to be held across the state, so that there can be more thoughtful discussions about policy and democracy:

The “Malcolm Wallop Fund for Conversations on Democracy” currently has raised around $165,000. Wallin says future forums may include national speakers and student led projects.

If you have an idea or would like to lead a forum, Kristi says people are encouraged to contact Leslie Waggener at 307-766-2557 or lwaggen2@uwyo.edu
