Public Process Underway on Coal Lease Application

The Bureau of Land Management has issued a Notice of Intent to initiate the public scoping process for a Lease by Application for a coal lease in the Powder River Basin.

The lease of 3.508 acres, holds approximately 441 million tons of in place coal. The 60-day public scoping period provides an opportunity for public input into the analysis for the proposed lease and for the public to review the proposal and gain an understanding of the competitive coal leasing process.

Antelope Coal, LLC, has applied for a coal lease adjacent to the Antelope Mine south of Wright. The BLM will host a public meeting on September 20 at 7 pm at the Wright Community Center. For more information, contact Teresa Johnson at 307-261-7510
