Public Hearing Set To Debate Groundwater Protection Areas

The County Planning Department has completed Phase II of the Groundwater Protection Area assessment. The County will consider amending the subdivision resolution to create the protection area and limit conventional subdivision lot sizes to a minimum of five acres in these areas. County Planner Mark Reid says two acre lots would have to use enhanced septic systems that provide better protection for the groundwater table.

The matter will go before the planning commission at their November meeting and will return to the Commissioners on December 1st. A moratorium on any further development in the designated areas will continue until the Commissioners take action one way or another.
