Public Forum On Fate Of Lake DeSmet Tonight In Buffalo

A public meeting to discuss the fate and future of Lake DeSmet and the numerous possible uses of the resource will be held tonight at 7pm in the Buffalo High School Auditorium.

The Lake DeSmet Conservation District (LDCD) has organized the meeting to get information on the proposed lease of the lake by the Wyoming Game and Fish, possible industrial uses, and the concerns and legal rights of property owners on the lake and irrigators on and downstream from the lake.

Nikki Lohse, with the LDCD, explains what the meeting will cover and how it came about.

Lohse said panelists that will be making presentations include Mike Purcell with the Wyoming Water Development Commission, who will discuss the LDCD's Level II Clear Creek Watershed Study and how that pertains to the lake. Dave Garber, chair of the Lake DeSmet Counties Coalition will give an overview of the coalition, and Edith Johnson-LaMeres will cover water modeling information. Paul Mavrakis will represent the Wyoming Game and Fish.

The public will be able to make comments at the meeting or fill out questionaires that will be incorporated into the public forum's comments section in a report to follow the meeting.
