Healthcare premiums for employees of the Johnson County Healthcare Center will increase by 10 percent effective May 1st, after the Hospital Board approved to pass on the increase to employees at their regular meeting last week.

Hospital Director Sandy Ward told the Board that claims this year were higher than they had expected, which led to the increase in premiums.

Ward explains Management's decision to the Board, and also explains that there were problems with claims processing they just became aware of.

MBA is the third-party administrator for the hospital's health insurance plan. There are a number of plans available from MBA and another company they can choose as their administrator.

Ward asked the Board for approval for management to make a decision on which plan to accept. The decision has to be made before the next Board meeting next month to implement the plan and get employees signed up before the deadline.

The Board approved Ward and Management to make any necessary decisions and they would approve them at the next board meeting.
