Groathouse Construction met with the Johnson County Commission Tuesday to discuss the possibility of reaching an agreement for them to perform pre-construction planning for the courtrooms and office facilities at the new Criminal Justice Center. Johnson County News Director for Sheridan Media, Aaron Palmer, has more.

Groathouse is the main contractor building the CJC, and they approached the Commission to officially put in for the pre-construction planning on the facilities which are in the planning stages now.

The contractor argued that by allowing them to do pre-construction while they are currently building the first part of the facility would save money in the long run by not having many different companies trying to work together on the project. There would be no obligation, the contractor said, to use them to actually build the courtroom and office facility.

The commissioners' concern seemed to be with saving money and making the two projects come together as effortlessly as possible.

Although no decision was made at the meeting, Commissioner Smokey Wildeman explained how taxpayers could save money.

Commissioner Delbert Eitel said the planning is underway for the courtroom/office facility.

Wildeman said no decision was made at the special meeting Tuesday, but will be addressed at the commissioner's meeting next week.
