Power Knocked Out in Story

Power was knocked out in a portion of Story for nearly six hours Thursday when efforts to cut down a tree went wrong.

Zach Hallam said he was helping a friend cut down some trees near the Story fire station when one of the trees fell the wrong way and slammed into a power line.

Hallam said the line was snapped in two, which knocked out power to the Wagon Box Inn and surrounding area. He said power was out from around 3 p.m. until nearly 9 p.m.

Hallam said the breaker wasn't tripped, and sparks from the power line started a grass fire. He said the Story Volunteer Fire Department responded to put out the fire. Rocky Mountain Ambulance and Montana Dakota Utilities were also called to the scene.
