Poll Question: Teacher Employment Law

Poll Question: Teacher Employment Law

Education issues will be at the forefront of the 2011 Wyoming Legislative Session, and one of the pieces of legislation deals with legislation on the “Continuing Contract” status for teachers.

The Winter 2010 edition of the WEA News, which the Wyoming Education Association publishes indicates, “If improved student performance is our goal, legislators should be looking for ways to empower teachers with the freedom to teach, not make them feel vulnerable and insecure in their jobs. It must be recognized that if there is no requirement for 'good cause' for termination, teachers could be fired for unfair, unfounded reasons, or for no reason at all...”

Kathryn Valido is President of the WEA. She comments further on the issue.

This week's Bank of Sheridan / sheridanmedia.com poll question is: Do you support the proposed legislation that would remove continuing contract status from the state's teacher employment law.

Let us know what you think. Cast your vote here: http://www.sheridanmedia.com/pol... and feel free to leave appropriate comments. Then be sure to tune in to the Jackson Electric Open Line to hear the results, this Friday morning at 9:10 on NewsTalk 930 KROE.
