Police Lieutenant Offers Halloween Tips

As children get ready to go trick-or-treating today, Lt. Chris Dahmke of the Sheridan Police Department is reminding parents to talk to their children about safety.

Tell them, he says, to only go to well-lit houses, stop at all corners and bring treats home before eating them so they can be inspected. And send the children off with a flashlight and an emergency phone number, just in case.

For the adults, he has reminders, too. Drive slowly, he says, in residential areas, keep a special eye out for pedestrians and be extra careful when pulling out of driveways and alleys.
