So, what does the last decade's unprecedented growth mean to local entities? With Buffalo's population exceeding 4,500 people, Buffalo City Planner Zach Montgomery said the city will be looking into the possibility of becoming a First-Class City.

But more importantly, he said, is planning for growth in the city and the county that he says is sure to come, once the economy rebounds in the region.

He explains what city officials need to be doing now to address that growth.

The last surge in growth occurred in the previous decade, and Montgomery said the city had to deal with a number of problems because of the unprecedented growth.

Montgomery said the city did learn valuable lessons from dealing with the last growth spurt, and will hopefully apply the lessons to the next growth cycle.
