Perhaps the only place where dressing up your pet and bringing it out into public is not frowned upon, the 11th Annual "Pet-O-Ween" event is this Saturday in Kendrick Park.

Sheridan County Dog and Cat Shelter Executive Director Cel Hope explains that even though the event is a week earlier this year and on the same day as Raising Readers in Wyoming at Sheridan Junior High School, people can still make it to both.

Pets in costume compete for prizes in three divisions: Funniest, Scariest, and Most Creative. Entry fee is $5 per pet. The event begins at 11 am and lasts until about 1 pm under the bandshell in Kendrick Park. All proceeds go to support the Dog and Cat Shelter.

Saturday is a busy day for events in Sheridan County with the 3rd Annual Run/Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness – “The Link” Partners in Pink 10K run, 5K run/walk, and 1.5 mile walk is at 10 am in Whitney Commons Park. All funds raised there go to support the new Welch Cancer Center.

Dog and Cat Shelter Calendar Voting Open until October 31st

Those who haven't had a chance to place their vote in the 2001 Pet Calendar contest can do so on Saturday at Pet-O-Ween in Kendrick Park.

Voting for the Dog and Cat Shelter's calendar is open until October 31st. Hope said there were more than 100 entries this year. The fourteen entries receiving the most votes will have their own page, and all remaining photos will be posted on the pages of the calendar.

A vote costs $1 and you can vote as many times as you want. Votes can be placed at Warehouse Market, online at the www.dogandcatshelter.org, or by stopping by the Dog and Cat Shelter at 84 E Ridge Road in Sheridan. All proceeds go to the shelter.

The dog and cat shelter is also accepting dog collar donations that will fit medium to large dogs. (16”-24” or 18”-24”).
