Patton Talks Failed Retirement Bill

Most legislators had a pretty good assumption that changes to the state's retirement system probably wouldn't make it past the introduction stage of this year's budget session. House Bill 91 failed to make it to committee on a 30 to 30 vote. Any non-budget bill requires a two-thirds vote to be introduced. Representative John Patton was one of the legislators that strongly opposed the bill moving forward.

Furthermore, Patton says that there was a sense of urgency by leadership to try and get the bill introduced that wasn't necessary.

While there has been some discussion that the retirement bill may come before the legislature next year during their regular session, Patton stated that in a year's time it may have a very difficult time being seriously considered.
