Parent Addresses Fair Board About Miscommunication Within 4-H

The mother of an active 4-H member said at last week's meeting of the Sheridan County Fair Association's Board of Trustees, that trouble is brewing. Chari Frederickson addressed the board with her concerns of miscommunication when it comes to certain requirements.

Facilities Director for the Sheridan County Fairgrounds, Melissa Albrecht, said that Frederickson told her some of this year's 4-H judging records - including final scores - had been shredded. Albrecht said they are state documents and should be kept for a minimum of two years.

Frederickson told the board this stems from an incident where another girl won an award she thought her daughter, Maggie, had won fair and square.

Jerrica Lind is the Youth Development Educator for 4-H's Sheridan extension. After Frederickson made an inquiry into the missing fair book, Lind told her that Albrecht was the one responsible for the fair books - and the award. Albrecht made it clear this is not the case and it does not fall under the responsibility of the SCFA. Albrecht said she signs the checks - that's it.

Frederickson said she wanted to make sure parents who aren't satisfied with the way things turned out during the awards ceremony know who to talk to - and it's not the fair board. Members of the fair board said they plan on attending the next meeting of the Livestock Committee to hopefully clear things up.
