Beulah and Eugene Fackenthall drove to Sheridan from Ranchester to be first in line at the Kiwanis Club's pancake breakfast on Grinnell Plaza this morning.

Beulah said she and her husband try to be first at the breakfast every year. They were among nearly 2,000 people served by the Kiwanians who, according to club member Judy Taylor, arrived between 4:20 and 4:30 to start preparations.

In addition to the Sheridan High School football team, area Boy Scouts also help, serving the ham and disposing of trays, plates, cups and utensils when breakfasters are finished. Another breakfast attendee was Elizabeth Orum, a Sheridan resident who said the pancake breakfast is part of Rodeo Friday for her.

Jim Wilhelm was among the Kiwanis members flipping pancakes for the event. He said he's been helping with the breakfast for over 30 years. He also talked about the numbers.

The breakfast continues from 6 until 9 a.m., then the Kiwanians break everything down and pack equipment away until next year.
